I went along to BITMO GATE on Tuesday 3rd of March for our Annual Dementia for a cuppa event. The money raised at this event goes to Admiral Nurses, who look after people with Dementia, who know one day I may need them.0 The event is held Nationally every year the 1st week in March
I arrive early to set the tables up with Darren and Harry for the various Local groups who were going to join us on this day.
1st to arrive was Trinity Network, and quickly put up there banner on a table
You can see more of there work at https://trinitynetwork.org.uk/
Belle Isle Senior Action, came along and also had a table set out for them. You can see more of this organisation at https://belleisle.org.uk/
One of the most popular tables was Julies Ancestry Group, the group meets at the centre every Monday from 10am, with a break for lunch and continues on into the afternoon. I noted Julie had some photos of our Ancestress way back when.
Julie and her Family won the Hunslet Rugby Family Ticket, worth around £50.00 in the raffle. Well done Julie.
Michael came along from Middleton Elderly Aid, to give advice from her table about the centre in Middleton.
You can find out more at https://middletonelderlyaid.org.uk/
We had a visit from 2 local PCSO, giving advise on keeping our selves safe, and were there to answer any questions we may have.
Later The Fire Bridge came along to give advise on Fire Safety, and give away free smoke Alarms. The Fire Service will come along to your home to fit Fire Alarms where needed.
Julie says:
At the Dementia for a cuppa event, we were joined by Danny Gough and at least 20 Children from the local Windmill Primary School. They go by the name of Class Dynamix which is lead by Danny.
Danny wrote all the songs that were performed that afternoon. The songs talk about resilience and anti bullying.
Everyone thought what beautiful singers they were.
Windmill Primary School Executive Head Andy Gamble and Federation Head Rachael Troughton came along with the children.
The children went back to school with some goodies and fruit.
I want to thank Julie Holmes for organising this for us.
Towards the end of the Afternoon we did the raffle and thanks must go to all the people who donated prizes for the raffle. Also the people who donated baked buns and cakes to sell on the day.
The top prize was tea and Cakes with the Lord Mayor and a tour around the Civic Hall for 4 people.
Julie and her Family, as said earlier won the Family Ticket to see a Rugby Match at South Leeds Stadium.
There where many more raffle prizes won , and I think which caused much fun was the Singing Dog.
We did a count up at he end of the afternoon and we raised from the raffle and selling of the buns and cakes £170.00. Thank you very much to everyone who came along on the day to raise all that money.
I keep saying this, but Im getting more forgetful each year because as may of you know I have Dementia, but maybe my last event I can organise along with Carla.
Thank you to all the Volunteers and Staff on the day, we could not have held this event without you.
Big Thank you to Carla, Julie, Darren and Harry.
